Give the Gift of Education – Your Donation Will Help Change Children’s Lives
Education and sustainable innovation ideas to help break the cycle of poverty and open up
life opportunities. That’s The Mlambe Project’s aim for children in Chikolongo, Southern
Malawi.
In Malawi, a fully operational primary school should teach children up to School Year 8
(around 14 years old).
We have 545 pupils enrolled at The Mlambe Primary School are unable to complete their
primary education with us. The school’s buildings and facilities are currently only equipped
to teach children from School Year 1 up to Year 6.
After finishing Year 6, pupils have to study elsewhere to complete their primary education;
with the next closest school being an hour’s walk away.
This is simply too far for many families who need their children to help with farming,
meaning these children never have the chance to compete their primary education.
When children leave the school, teachers estimate up to half of them will never return to
education. The completion rate for primary education in Malawi is just 59% (World Bank
Development Indicators, 2007). This could be substantially higher if children had the
opportunity to complete primary education in close proximity to their village.
Your donation can help fund a new school block (that’s two new school classrooms) to teach
another 60 children, help complete their primary education at Mlambe School and
ultimately give them the start in life they deserve.
Can you help us reach our total of £8300? You’ll help pay for the vital work to make this
possible. And since we rely entirely on voluntary donations, we urgently need your support
if we want to build these new classrooms.
Our aim is to complete the new school block by this September, ready for the start of the
academic year and in time to enrol children in School Years 7 and 8.
This gives us the deadline of starting the building work by June 2017.
All money raised will go towards funding the school block and the charity’s other vital work
at Mlambe School.
We sincerely appreciate all the help we receive, and we can't thank you enough for your donations. If you can't donate, please spread the word and help change the lives of young people in Malawi.
