Solar Dreaming

Here at the Mlambe Project, we're huge fans of renewable energy and the one thing there's never a shortage of in Malawi is sunlight! All of our power at Mlambe School is supplied via solar energy so we're constantly looking for ways to improve our solar capacity.

In the kind of serendipitous encounter so familiar to anyone who's visited Malawi, Lucy spent a night at Shire Ecolodge near Chickolongo, the only safari lodge in Malawi owned by a Malawian, Billy. Billy told her about how two young men had installed an incredibly efficient solar power system at the lodge. These two young men, Peter and Benedict were so organised that they arrived at the village at 8am the very next day to discuss the power at Mlambe school.

Clean Energy Engineering LTD, Peter and Benedict's business, provides solar solution in remote places using their own control pane; system that negates the need for inverters and charge regulators. This system would revolutionise the power capacity at the school and in the future could even allow us to turn the water pump into a solar pump. Their professionalism and expertise was truly inspiring and we can't wait to work with them in the future.
