Power at Mlambe!

It brings us great pleasure to announce the news of a major breakthrough for the Mlambe Project. The school is situated in a very rural part of Malawi and this means the only source for electronic power is through solar energy. Providing electricity to school was earmarked as a major aim of the charity. Saalim and Lucy have been working tirelessly to get power up and running since their arrival in September.

We can proudly announce that they have succeeded in wiring up solar panels to power the computer suite! This marks a major breakthrough for the project and will enable students to begin using the laptops that we’re kindly donated to the charity.

To further this development, the project has continued to strengthen our relationship with the University of Manchester, and as some of us are Alumni, we can proudly announce that our relationship with the University will continue. The current solar panels will be a temporary source of power for the computer suite while University of Manchester students, through the Enactus programme, will design more hi-tech solar panels to be used in the long term.

We are extremely grateful to all the donations and volunteers that have helped make this happen. The progress has been fantastic since Lucy and Saalim went out to Malawi, and we will continue to look to the future for more success.

We would also like to welcome Adam Gleaves to the team. Adam recently spent two and a half weeks with Saalim and Lucy in Malawi, and has proved to be an excellent addition to the team with his fantastic sense of humour and boundless energy! Now back in the UK, Adam is looking to take on an active fundraising role for the organisation.
