Saalim and Lucy's Progress at Mlambe

An update from the field As it has been several weeks since our last post, and a patchy correspondence with Saalim and Lucy (access to the internet issues etc…), we can now update you all on the progress of the Project.

As we mentioned before, Saalim and Lucy were firstly heading to the Lake of Stars Festival and we can safely say that they had an amazing time. Both of them have been to many festivals in the UK (Bestival, Glastonbury etc…) but Lake of Stars appears to have topped them all. The festival showcased the finest Malawian musical talent with some special international guests. We are now in talks with the organiser regarding the possibility of having our own stage at the festival next year, with local musicians from Mlambe performing.

The guys are now currently at the school in Mlambe working very hard, in incredibly hot and humid conditions to complete the first phase of the building project. Our team of experts have been rendering the first earth bag school building, repairing the original school block, and kitting out the computer suite. The experts are now well and truly more skilled in the art of earth bag building than us!

We are delighted to announce that we have some official photo’s of the progress as you can see below.

As you will no doubt have seen Saalim, Lucy and the local community as a whole, are working incredibly hard to complete the first phase of the building work before the rainy season. Spirits are extremely high in the village with the local community constantly referring to us all “building for a better future’. An expression which we have since adopted as the charities primary slogan. We will shortly be updating you with a personal blog from Saalim over the course of the next week. Thank you for your continued support.
