Saalim and Lucy arrive in Lilongwe

It is my great pleasure to announce the highly anticipated next chapter in the Mlambe Project’s story. On Saturday 20th September our dear team members Saalim and Lucy flew out to Malawi to see the project for themselves for the first time. With smiles and suitcases (and a lot of equipment!) they headed to the airport and have now safely arrived in Lilongwe. Having spoken to Saalim on the day of their flight, we can honestly say he was beyond excitement to finally get out to the school and start working on achieving the project’s main goals. He also succeeded in making us very jealous…

Main Goals

Saalim and Lucy will be aiming to achieve several main goals that will expand the project’s impact and further the great work that has already begun.

Having had seven laptops kindly donated to us from Christina Rasmussen, Emily Close, The Vanstone’s, Saalim & Jamie, Saalim and Lucy will be building a computer suite that will provide the school with Internet access which will be a great leap forward in the resources available for teaching.

They will also be repairing the Mlambe’s original school block and ensuring that the whole site is well maintained working closely with members of the community that have been involved in the project from the very beginning.

As we are all big music fans here at the Mlambe Project, Saalim and Lucy will be hoping to establish a relationship with Lake of Stars Festival that takes place this weekend in Malawi (24th-26th September). The festival focuses on the ‘sights and sounds’ of Malawi showcasing some of the best music from the country itself and the rest of the world. It will be the projects aim to try and encourage extra-curricular activities in music and the arts by building a relationship with the festival.

Foals headlined the event in 2011.

The guys will also be aiming to secure a building contract with a partner NGO to further spread the benefits of earthbag building, and create more employment opportunities for our workers.

As you can see it is a very busy and exciting time for the Mlambe Project and we will continue to provide updates of Saalim and Lucy and the project’s progress over the coming months until they return on 5th December!

New Donations

We would also like to offer our gratitude to the Redhill Rotary Club for their generous £500 donation. This will be used to help achieve our goals over the coming months so thank you!
